Katherine Dunham. Pearl Primus. Janet Collins. Misty Copeland. These are a few icons in the Arts for Black Women in Ballet. The neXt generation has come center stage and to add to this list &#8211; insert <strong>Destiny Wimpye<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we celebrate Black History Month, D2neXt would like to take this opportunity to recognize those individuals who work to make a difference in various fields, including small business owners, local politicians, medical professionals, and entertainment figures. This month, we are saluting everyday history-makers and their efforts to make a positive impact on the communities they support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meet Destiny Wimpye, a dancer, actress and model from Atlanta, Ga. In 2013 Destiny relocated to LA to train at&nbsp;<strong>The Debbie Allen Dance Academy<\/strong>. Since her&nbsp;relocation&nbsp;she has performed with Mariah<strong> Carey<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Jill Scott<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Debbie Allen<\/strong>&nbsp;and at the&nbsp;<strong>White&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>House for The Obama Administration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Destiny can be&nbsp;found&nbsp;in commercials for&nbsp;<strong>ABC Mouse<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Macy&#8217;s<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Toyota<\/strong>. Her acting skills have landed her on tv shows such as &#8220;<strong>Raven&#8217;s Home<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>Speechless<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>The Odd Couple<\/strong>&#8220;,&nbsp;a principal role in the hit television show &#8220;<strong>This is Us<\/strong>&#8221; and <strong>Tyler Perry&#8217;s&nbsp;A Jazzman&#8217;s Blues&#8221;<\/strong>&nbsp;on Netflix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Destiny&#8217;s main focus is ballet, she can be seen modeling for companies like&nbsp;<strong>Discount Dance<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>All About Dance<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Mariaa Dance Wear.&nbsp;<\/strong>She was&nbsp;featured in a makeup campaign for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5G8CQkDcy1g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Hourglass Cosmetics<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;with&nbsp;Twyla Tharp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Destiny has been named in the top 10 &#8220;<em>Up and Coming Ballerinas to Watch<\/em>&#8221; by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dancespirit.com\/destiny-wimpye-pacific-northwest-ballet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Dance Spirit Magazine<\/strong><\/a>, she has been featured in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dancemogul.com\/news\/dance-mogul-magazine-featuring-destiny-wimpye\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dance Mogul Magazine<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.danceinforma.com\/2020\/11\/30\/pnb-trainee-destiny-wimpye-on-chasing-challenges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dance&nbsp;Informa Magazine<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Destiny studied&nbsp;at the&nbsp;<strong>Colburn Dance Academy&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>Pacific Northwest Ballet School<\/strong>&nbsp;where she&nbsp;recently&nbsp;completed an apprenticeship. Her&nbsp;training&nbsp;includes courses at the<strong>&nbsp;Ailey School<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Debbie&nbsp;Allen Dance Academy<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>School of American Ballet&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>Chautauqua Dance Program<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnb.org\/artists\/destiny-wimpye\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Destiny joined<strong>&nbsp;Corps de Ballet in August 2023.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While a student at Pacific Northwest Ballet, Destiny performed in Company productions of<strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnb.org\/repertory\/the-nutcracker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">George Balanchine<\/a><\/strong><strong>\u2019s The Nutcracker\u00ae&nbsp;<\/strong>and<strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnb.org\/repertory\/kent-stowell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kent Stowell\u2019s<\/a><\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnb.org\/repertory\/swan-lake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Swan Lake&nbsp;<\/a><\/strong><strong>(Four Swans).&nbsp;<\/strong>She performed leading and featured roles in<strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnb.org\/repertory\/bruce-wells\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bruce Wells\u2019<\/a><\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnb.org\/repertory\/beauty-beast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Beauty and the Beast&nbsp;<\/a>(Belle);&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnb.org\/artists\/malena-ani\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Malena Ani\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;pillow scream and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnb.org\/artists\/noah-martzall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Noah Martzall\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;The Difference Between for NEXT STEP; and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnb.org\/artists\/christopher-dariano\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Christopher D\u2019Ariano\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;Homage.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Destiny has mastered technicality.
