D2neXt Salutes: Destiny Wimpye

Black Girl Magic! Katherine Dunham. Pearl Primus. Janet Collins. Misty Copeland. These are a few icons in the Arts for Black Women in Ballet. The neXt generation has come center stage and to add to this list – insert Destiny Wimpye.

As we celebrate Black History Month, D2neXt would like to take this opportunity to recognize those individuals who work to make a difference in various fields, including small business owners, local politicians, medical professionals, and entertainment figures. This month, we are saluting everyday history-makers and their efforts to make a positive impact on the communities they support.

Meet Destiny Wimpye, a dancer, actress and model from Atlanta, Ga. In 2013 Destiny relocated to LA to train at The Debbie Allen Dance Academy. Since her relocation she has performed with Mariah CareyJill ScottDebbie Allen and at the White House for The Obama Administration.

Destiny can be found in commercials for ABC MouseMacy’s and Toyota. Her acting skills have landed her on tv shows such as “Raven’s Home“, “Speechless“, “The Odd Couple“, a principal role in the hit television show “This is Us” and Tyler Perry’s A Jazzman’s Blues” on Netflix.

Although Destiny’s main focus is ballet, she can be seen modeling for companies like Discount DanceAll About Dance and Mariaa Dance Wear. She was featured in a makeup campaign for Hourglass Cosmetics with Twyla Tharp.

Destiny has been named in the top 10 “Up and Coming Ballerinas to Watch” by Dance Spirit Magazine, she has been featured in

Dance Mogul Magazine and Dance Informa Magazine.

Destiny studied at the Colburn Dance Academy and Pacific Northwest Ballet School where she recently completed an apprenticeship. Her training includes courses at the Ailey SchoolDebbie Allen Dance AcademySchool of American Ballet and Chautauqua Dance Program.

Destiny joined Corps de Ballet in August 2023.

While a student at Pacific Northwest Ballet, Destiny performed in Company productions of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker® and Kent Stowell’s Swan Lake (Four Swans). She performed leading and featured roles in Bruce Wells’ Beauty and the Beast (Belle); Malena Ani’s pillow scream and Noah Martzall’s The Difference Between for NEXT STEP; and Christopher D’Ariano’s Homage.

Destiny has mastered technicality. She is like a sponge that can observe, study, and execute with precision. Making her talent shine so elegantly, D2neXt salutes this rising star…. She’s neXt!
